- allows installer to carry a keypad to the proposed locations for system modules (siren-repeaters, keypads, detectors) and test communications to the controller before the module is installed. Keypad reports whether proposed location is "good", "fair" or "bad".

- allows installer or user to independently test the operation of each detection device without setting off an alarm
